How to Save Money Now on Your Cell Phone Bill

I should take notes on this.. because it seems like my cell bill is just too high for the plan that i have. hopefully you guys can learn some tips and benefit from this article. on another note hope everyone had a great weekend :]

Cell phones today are virtually mini computers loaded with gadgets, games, and gizmos, from cameras to projection screens. However, these features may ultimately end up costing you more than they’re worth. So if you’re looking to reduce your monthly bill, here are four tips that can help you save now.

Tip #1:
If you don’t use it lose it. For light users, moving to a prepaid plan can help you save on unused minutes.

Tip #2:
Get rid of your phone insurance if your phone is more than three to six months old, or if it’s an inexpensive model under $50. You don’t want to pay more for insurance than the phone is worth, so consider getting insurance for the first few months you have your phone when it’s at its premium, then consider canceling. This could save you five to seven bucks a month.

Tip#3:
Beware of the family plan. Family plans share minutes and have several people working towards a monthly limit. This can result in reaching that limit sooner than anticipated. In addition, family plans often have hidden termination fees, which could cost you in the neighborhood of 200 dollars per phone.

Tip #4:
Compare your calling plan online. There are several free websites that allow you to upload your cell phone bill and compare your usage and needs line by line to see if there’s another plan or carrier that can save you money.

Tip #5:
Need help tracking your cell phone usage? Sign up (for free!) at overmyminutes.com to receive a text, or e-mail when you are about to go over your minutes

Tip #6:
Instead of using your cell to call friends, use your computer! Skype allows you to call people with other skype accounts for free

Tip #7:
Keep it all in the family, by making sure your close ones are all on the same plan. Generally, there’s no charge if you call people on your same network

Tip#8:
Are cell phone international calling fees the reason you want to flee the country? Sites like Jaxtr.com allow you to bypass international fees by linking your cell phone to your computer

Sites like Billshrink.com will then compare your usage and needs … line-by-line to see if there is another plan or carrier that can save you money.

And if you like the service you have you can always call your phone company’s customer loyalty department and ask for a reduction.

Phones For Haiti-Cell Phone recycling program for Disaster Relief

We all heard the devisating news of the Earthquick that hit Haiti.well there's a way you can help.. buy sending old cellphones! read on and see if its something you might be interested in.

Everyone in this globe started this New Year with lots of hope and dreams but the nature has shown its hard face to the people of Haiti. I’m reminding you all about Haiti earthquake that took place recently which is supposed to be a cold blooded murder by nature

The January 12th earthquake in Haiti has left an estimated 3 million people hurt or homeless and the death rate increases daily as many are still buried under debris. You can help them by recycling your used phones.

There are an estimated 130 million phones retired in the United States every year. If even a small percentage of them are sent to Phones for Haiti, it would contribute millions of dollars towards relief from the devastating earthquake.

3 simple steps to do:

•Gather all makes and models of cell phones.
•Print Pre-paid shipping Label, shipping is free.
•Mail the packed phones in envelope or box and affix label.
ReCellular will give 100% of the phone value as a contribution to the American Red Cross; charities like the March of Dimes and Susan G. Komen for the Cure have already earned more than $10 million dollars in contributions through their partnerships with ReCellular.

With rescue and repair missions already underway, it is critical that funds get to the region quickly. By using the postage paid label, supporters can have their used phones sent to ReCellular within just a few days, allowing for the rapid distribution of funds. All phones are accepted, though newer phones will provide the most value to the charity – in some cases $100 or more.

If your package weighs more than 3 lbs (about 8 phones), please call or email us to arrange an alternative shipping method – PLEASE DO NOT USE A USPS SHIPPING LABEL.

Seriously? Battery Powers Mobile Phone By Sipping on Soda

I've seen and read alot of articles but i couldnt resist and post this one because soda! really?! so yeah read please very interesting.

The latest in crazy designs to run on alternative power sources comes out of designer Daizi Zheng, who has dreamed up a reusable-bottle-meets-cell-phone concept. The user adds a can of soda, and can talk on the phone for four times longer than if they were using a lithium ion battery. Um...say what?

This is supposed to be a "green phone" design for Nokia. It's one I highly doubt the company will buy into.

From the designer: "Through my research, I found that phone battery as a power source, it is expensive, consuming valuable resources on manufacturing, presenting a disposal problem and harmful to the environment. The concept is using bio battery to replace the traditional battery to create a pollution free environment. Bio battery is an ecologically friendly energy generates electricity from carbohydrates (currently sugar) and utilizes enzymes as the catalyst. By using bio battery as the power source of the phone, it only needs a pack of sugary drink and it generates water and oxygen while the battery dies out. Bio battery has the potential to operate three to four times longer on a single charge than conventional lithium batteries and it could be fully biodegradable. Meanwhile, it brings a whole new perception to batteries and afternoon tea."

Do I need to go into detail on this one? Designers...please, don't waste time on BS ideas like this. A can of soda is not a low carbon footprint way of getting energy for a gadget, nor is it "pollution free." And there's no way a dose of soda can provide four times the length of charge of a lithium battery. Plus, who wants to pour liquid anywhere near their mobile phone, let alone into it?

Zomm keeps you from losing your cell.

OOOO!!this looks like something i might actually consider buying its pretty cool. it lets you know when your left your cell phone somewhere.
check out this short article.

Tired of losing your cell phone? Maybe you need a Zomm.

The new gadget is billed as a wireless leash for mobile phones reminding you when you've left your cell phone behind. Here's how it works:

You just pair the nugget sized Zomm with your phone over Bluetooth. Then you clip the Zomm onto you or attach it to your keychain. When your cell phones gets more than 30 feet away from Zomm, the Zomm unit starts to vibrate, flash lights and then eventually lets out a wail.

You can also use the Zomm as a Bluetooth speaker so you can answer calls through it, instead of talking straight into your phone.

The leash idea can work in reverse too. If you're the type who loses their keys more than their phone, you can just attach Zomm to your keys and then whenever you lose your keys, you can call Zomm and set off its alarm.

There's also a panic button. In case of emergency you can just press it and get help immediately, without dialing on your cell phone.

Zomm will be available this summer for $79.95
